Overview
In July 2019, I joined Dwarves Foundation as a Product Designer to work on Fortress, an internal web app for enhancing HR operations of 100+ remote employees. I had fun collaborating with an UX designer and contributed my expertise to this large scale and meaningful project.
Challenges
The challenge was to streamline internal HR workflows burdened by multiple tools and inefficient processes. Our goal was to create a platform that minimized low-level tasks and improved decision-making quality, all while maintaining confidentiality and adapting to existing workflows.
Approach
I focused on empathizing with HR executives and managers, to understand their tech-savviness, multitasking requirements and pain points with the current fragmented workflow. This understanding led to a design that centralized document management, offered customized workflows, and provided transparency in sharing information.
Execution / Design
I owned the end-to-end experience and in-app illustrations. The final app consisted of dashboards for HR managers/executives, welcome kit for newcomers, profiles, etc. Each employee can view the career progression in their profiles and can check on that of their colleagues for better understanding.
Impact
We improved HR operations: a 30% weekly reduction in accounting and documentation tasks, successful auto-onboarding of new members
Increased job satisfaction among HR team members.
I did learn how to optimize workflows and enhance user experience at scale, while not knowing all information due to the confidentiality.
