Overview
My journey at FiinGroup began as an UI/UX Designer, then becoming a Senior and Leader. As a team of one, I owned the design of FiinTrade, a web application aimed at demystifying stock trading for beginners.
Challenges
The financial markets are often overwhelming for first-time investors, with complex terminology and a wealth of misleading information. Our challenge was to demystify stock trading and make it approachable for those new to investing. The goal was to create an intuitive interface that would simplify the experience, while maintaining the functionality needed to support informed decision-making.
Approach
Our approach focused on understanding the needs of beginner investors and translating those insights into a user-friendly experience. I collaborated closely with the Business Analysts and advisors from QUICK Corp, who specialize in financial indices, to ensure that the app's design would support first-time investors.
User Research: We conducted user interviews with potential investors to identify their needs and pain points. This helped us uncover key features that would simplify stock trading for beginners, such as real-time stock updates, educational content, and a customizable user interface.
Expert Consultations: We met with advisors from QUICK Corp to gather their insights on how to design an experience that would best serve novice investors. This collaboration helped us ensure the platform aligned with both market trends and user expectations.
Execution / Design
Collaborating with the Business Analysts, I ideated a widget-based layout, allowing users to drag and drop widgets to personalize their stock-trading dashboard. We even used PowerPoint to wireframe key screens and began experimenting with Sketch to bring the UI to life.
I designed over 800 screens in just six months. Using InVision and Craft for rapid prototyping, I presented my designs to the product team and the advisor board, receiving feedback to improve the user experience.
After internal testing, we conducted usability tests with selected beta users and our advisors. I refined the UX to ensure it was intuitive and responsive to the needs of first-time investors.
Between Mar and Jul-2019, I led a team of four Design and Business Analyst interns, guiding them through the testing process and documenting user scenarios. This experience honed my leadership skills and established a solid foundation for future design at FiinGroup.
Impact
FiinTrade attracted 3,000+ beta users in the first week of launch, with high daily active user rates.
I set the design processes, hired new designers, and the foundation for the design growth at FiinGroup.
