Challenges
Managing a greenhouse is a complex job. Operators spend hours wrestling with raw IoT data, buried under charts and numbers, yet missing critical opportunities to optimize performance. Workloads were manual, decisions were delayed, and the data wasn’t helping them grow smarter.
Koidra had a bold vision: make managing greenhouses effortless. In 2020, I worked with Koidra’s CEO Kenneth Tran and COO Mya Doan-Ha to build something operators could trust and use daily.
Solution
I started by talking to greenhouse operators across the U.S. and Canada. Their message was clear: they didn’t want more graphs or complicated dashboards. They wanted clarity. They needed answers to three questions: What’s happening? What should I do next? How can I prevent problems?
I designed Krop Manager to deliver exactly that. The dashboard distilled raw data into real-time insights. Predictive alerts flagged issues before they escalated, while simplified workflows cut down repetitive tasks. Operators no longer had to guess; they could make decisions quickly—whether at their desks or on their phones.
We moved from concept to beta in just two months, balancing thoughtful design with the demands of a fast-moving startup. Beyond product design, I also developed Koidra’s visual identity, ensuring the branding reflected its mission of bringing AI-driven sustainability to agriculture.
Impact
Within the first month of beta, Krop Manager secured eight customer deals and achieved a 90% success rate in integrating with existing greenhouse sensors and control systems. Operators saw the difference: less manual work, faster problem-solving, and optimized performance.
Krop Manager’s success also helped Koidra raise $4.5 million in a Seed round led by Ospraie Ag Science in 2022, validating the mission to drive sustainable agriculture through AI innovation.
