Challenges
ImmoScout24 was Switzerland’s second most popular real estate platform, but some parts of it weren’t working for users. People were leaving the app before finding a home. Filters were messy. Location data—the kind of context people actually needed—was missing. And tools like mortgage calculators? They didn’t exist. Instead of helping users make decisions, the app pushed them away.
Solution
I joined Scout24 as Senior Product Designer to fix this with the Swiss design team. The goal was simple: help users find the right homes, fast.
We started with research—surveys and interviews showed the real problem. Users weren’t just looking for houses. They were answering bigger questions: “How far is this from work?” or “What schools are nearby?” I designed proximity search, a feature that turned location into answers. Users could instantly see commute times to destinations they cared about, making decisions faster.
Next, I tackled the filters. The old system forced users to dig through too many options. I simplified it, removing clutter and making search feel clear, focused, and fast.
Finally, I closed the final gap after users found a listing. I added mortgage calculators and some more tools right into the app. Users could plan their next steps without leaving the platform.
To keep the experience consistent and help the team ship faster, I maintained the design systems for iOS and Android, ensuring we shipped fast and polished.
Impact
Within three months of launch, user retention jumped from 60% to 78%, while engagement climbed by 12%. Internally, design systems for iOS and Android I maintained reduced rollout times by 16%.
By early 2020, ImmoScout24 was back on top—Switzerland’s No. 1 real estate platform, leading both the App Store and Google Play.
